Issigeac is our nearest large village/small town, a short two minute-drive from La Barrat. It is a beautiful medieval town that has hardly changed in hundreds of years. The town has three excellent restaurants, several bars and cafés, two small supermarkets, two chemists, two butchers, three bakers, a bank and a post office. You really won't need to travel further than this for your everydays needs.
Issigeac is famous for its Sunday market, which transforms this normally sleepy town into a bustling market for a few hours every Sunday morning.
There are many spectacular Bastide towns within a 20-30 minute drive. Monpazier is one of the best known and has a beautiful square and a glass blower demonstrating his craft. Castillones, Villereal, Monflanquin and Beaumont are all truly pretty and easy to get to.
A little further afield it is possible to visit the towns of Sarlat, Beynac and Dome. A drive west along the Dordogne will take you into the rugged landscape of towering hills and beautiful chateaux. This part of the Dordogne has many famous, prehistoric sites where you can see troglodyte dwellings and cave paintings.
